Staff in mask outdoorsWhen I was 7, my parents decided to send me and my brother to a brand new summer camp. Little did they know, those two weeks spent at Camp Riverwood would go on to change my life in a million different ways.

I spent every summer following that one at Riverwood. I celebrated my birthday at camp most summers, tried almost every single optional program, and made lasting memories. Over the years, I have been a camper, an LTP, a councillor, a specialist, as well as now being a part of the Head staff team. Riverwood has been my home each summer, and not only has it seen me grow up, but I have also been fortunate to see it grow as well. Each summer, I can see the hard work that goes into making this place what it is, and the desire that we all have to make each summer better than the last.

Jenn staff with campersOften, people ask me why I keep coming back, year after year. There are many answers to this, such as getting to work outside all summer, meeting new campers, gaining new skills, and the beautiful lake view. However, the best part of camp is the people. (any maybe the theme days!) I have made lifelong friends in my years at camp, and I am so thankful that I get to do such a fun job, surrounded by those friends. More than that, I have met so many people that have been great role models to me growing up. Because of Riverwood, I have been lucky to be around people that have shaped who I am as a person, and I can only hope to be as good a leader to others, as they were to me.

While I am not sure what lead my parents to send me to Camp Riverwood 15 years ago, I do know that I look forward to the summer all year long, because I know it will be spent full of laughs, friends, learning, and plenty of games of tetherball! I can’t wait to see what 2022 has in store of us!

See you at camp!
