Summer 2020 Update – COVID-19

Dear Camp Riverwood Community,

We would like to start off by thanking you for your continued patience and support during this difficult and unprecedented time. We know that many children look forward to camp all year long and are asking daily when and if they will be going to Riverwood this summer. Based on the nature of our camp program and the capabilities of our onsite and offsite facilities, it is with a heavy heart that we reach out to you today to let you know that Camp Riverwood at Petticoat Creek will not be running this summer. It would just not be possible to operate in person due to the health risks associated with the spread of COVID-19. What seemed unimaginable only a few weeks ago, is sadly now a reality.

As industry leaders, educators and parents, we are simply unable to confidently ensure that we will be able to safely and responsibly deliver the high quality program we have committed ourselves to and have promised to your children. We are devastated to deliver this news knowing how important camp is to so many children and families, particularly this summer.

For 13 consecutive seasons, Riverwood has been a magical summer place for thousands of campers and staff. We cannot imagine a summer without camp. Riverwood is not only a place of fun and friendship, but an opportunity to grow and achieve on so many levels. This experience that we love to provide will be deeply missed by all our campers, staff, parents, and the Director Team.

Even though we will not be physically together at camp in 2020, we will be providing virtual and offsite experiences that will ensure your children remain connected to Riverwood throughout the summer. We will be sending out more information about these programs shortly. We know that nothing can replace the energy of a Riverwood morning assembly, the overwhelming excitement as our campers experience new activities during Optional Specialty Programs or creating a forever memory with our camp friends, but we will endeavour to recreate the spirit of camp. Please stay tuned for details.

We would like to thank everyone that has reached out to provide such wonderful words of encouragement. We greatly appreciate you choosing Camp Riverwood for your child’s summer 2020 experience and we can’t wait to see everyone at camp in 2021!

We hope your family is well and managing as best as they can. Better times are ahead.

Stay safe and healthy!

Lori, Phil & Eddy
Directors

Week 8, Day 3 – August 22, 2018

Today our Senior campers took a day trip to Green Acres! Hawks and Mustangs participated in so many exciting activities while we were there!

The morning started off with a visit to see the farm animals! There were a variety of different animals for everyone to look at, such as goats, chickens and pigs. Oh my!

Some of our other campers could be found recording covers of hit songs in the recording studio!

In the kitchen, campers were hard at work baking giant cookies and eating ice cream!

In the afternoon, Green Acres staff taught us shoot a bow and arrow at their archery station!

Then our bravest campers tackled the high ropes and rock climbing wall!

And last, but definitely not least, we all cooled off with a refreshing swim in the pool! Our campers were so excited when they saw there was a waterslide!

Thank you for having us Green Acres!

Today our campers had a chance to participate in a little extra fun at our extended night! Our junior shelter had their very own Super Mario party with hats, mustaches, and more!

On the other side of camp, our senior shelter was having a beach party!

But before the party officially started it was off to the pool to get in an extra swim!

Our pandas absolutely love the waterslide!

After a quick splash, we were back at the shelter for a slice of delicious pizza!

Once we were finished eating, our junior campers played Mario themed games and created there very own Mario characters with beads!

Meanwhile, our senior campers were enjoying a relaxing evening on the beach, and participated in a sandcastle making competition!

Week 6, Day 2 – August 8, 2018

A little rain can’t get us down! Today the weather caused us to take shelter at an indoor location, but that doesn’t mean we had any less fun!

Our morning optionals continued indoors as they regularly would.

Our All That Glitters group were found making beautiful dreamcatchers

On the other side of the arena our multi-sports campers were playing an intense game of dodgeball.

After lunch there were a variety of different activities for our campers to keep the fun going! We all made unique crafts, played games, and sang with the LTPs at their karaoke dance station!

A little rain won’t get our campers and staff down! But even though we had so much fun, we are looking forward to a little more sunshine in the days to come!

Today we visited two more of our off-site optionals to get in on more of the fun at camp!

At tennis, you need to have quick reflexes as our campers can be seen rallying their balls back and forth in an attempt to score a point against their opponent.

When they’re not facing off against each other they can be seen playing high energy tennis themed games!

“My favourite part of tennis is playing the Jailbreak game!”

– Andrew, Pandas 3

Over at the skatepark our campers are zooming in every direction through a variety of hills and ramps.

“My favourite part of skateboarding is when I go super fast down the ramps!”

– Zoey, Tigers 13

These two optionals were so exciting!

Don’t forget that tomorrow is Flashback Friday!

Week 5, Day 3 – August 1, 2018

Today we had a special guest visit us at Camp Riverwood! The Bounce Entertainment team came over to throw us a dance party and teach our campers some awesome new moves!

But before the party could officially start we all had a quick warm up session to prepare for the crazy, non-stop dancing that was to come!

Then it was finally time to hit the dance floor! Our Tigers were so excited to get the party started!

The Mustangs and Hawks broke out their best dance moves and showed us all how it’s done!

Their favourite dance move was definitely swinging their partner ’round and ’round, even though it left us all a little dizzy!

Thank you to Bounce Entertainment for a terrific afternoon!
