Leadership Training Program (LTP)

This multifaceted program prepares teens for leadership roles both at Camp Riverwood and in their future. This program provides a great balance of group bonding time, camp placements, training workshops, leadership opportunities, community service initiatives and camp activities. Every year, including the recent COVID-19 summer, LTPs have raved about the program and many have wanted to extend their stay. They talk about the friendships and memories they made in the program and how prepared they felt to make the transition to camp staff.

Here’s how it works:

The program runs in two-week sessions, and each session offers a variety of different experiences. During the first week, the teens are placed in cabin groups with specialized counsellors. Together, they enjoy age-appropriate camp activities, plan and execute a community service initiative (food drive, candy-grams, school supply drive, etc) and participate in interactive leadership workshops throughout the week. In the second week of the session, LTPs get to choose a week-long placement around camp, assisting Counsellors or Instructors in either Traditional Camp or Optional Specialty Programs. They receive regular feedback which they use to develop their leadership skills and apply to their next placement.

Each year we partner with several charitable organizations to give the LTPs the opportunity to earn up to 20 volunteer hours throughout the session, which count towards their high school community service requirements. Many of our LTPs have gone on to become successful counsellors, instructors and head staff! The best part of the program are the close friendships made throughout the session and the long-lasting memories!

Don’t miss out on Summer 2024!
