Sports Camp
Athletics for both boys and girls at Camp Riverwood is provided by trained, experienced and caring instructors in a structured camp setting. Our staff emphasizes a hands-on teaching approach and create lessons that are both age and skill appropriate. On the courts and on the sports fields at Camp Riverwood learning is made fun and sportsmanship, teamwork and effort are always encouraged. Campers also enjoy a recreational swim each day in the well supervised outdoor swimming pool located onsite.
Fantantibulous Sports to Choose From:
Each day campers participate in their chosen sport for half a day. The rest of each day is filled with traditional camp activities including recreational swim, special unit wide and camp wide theme events, hiking, beach time, crafts and more.
Beach Volleyball (Weeks 3 & 8)
Skill development in the following areas are emphasized in a fun and structured environment: serving, passing, setting, blocking, attacking, team defence and team reception.
Canoeing and Kayaking (Weeks 1, 4, 6 & 7)
Each day campers will be introduced to new skills, including general river safety, canoe and kayak techniques and paddling principles. Enjoy a canoe and kayak trip down the Rouge River with our well trained and qualified instructors as well as races, courses and games in the water.
Dragonboat Racing (Weeks 2, & 5)..........NEW!
These Chinese-style boats take between 16 and 20 paddlers. This is a new and exciting way to build team spirit. Learn to work in a group environment, perfect a stroke and paddle in synchrony.
Golf (Weeks 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 & 8)
Campers practice driving, chipping, bunker shots and putting. Campers will also play a par 3 course and learn about the rules of the game, what clubs to use and golf etiquette.
Horseback Riding (Weeks 2, 4, & 7)..........NEW!
Qualified English riding instruction is provided on quiet and trained horses in a fenced in area. Our program also covers stable management, grooming, safety around horses, equipment and tacking up. There is no trail riding.
Sailing (Weeks 3 & 8)..........NEW!
In this program, campers enjoy learning the fundamentals of sailing, including rigging a boat, reading the wind and water, steering, tying knots and seamanship.
Skatepark Adventures (Weeks 2 & 7)..........NEW!
This awesome program will delight both skateboarding and rollerblading enthusiasts alike. The variety of bowls, half pipes, ramps and rails challenge all campers. In-line skates or sketeboard, CSA approved skateboarding helmet, wrist guards, elbow and knee pads must be supplied by the camper.
Soccer (Weeks 1 & 6)
All aspects of soccer will be covered during the camp week. Sessions will consist of team tactics and individual skills, including passing, heading, shooting, free-kicking, goalkeeping and ball control.
Tennis (Weeks 3, 5 & 8)
Qualified tennis instruction is provided by our Head Tennis Pro, Brian Hurd (905) 839-8823, and is designed to focus on all aspects of the game including forehands, backhands, serves, volleys and overheads.
